It was only with Luke Skywalker's help that Hux was able to get Kylo Ren to the proper medical facility. Though Luke departed quickly enough to avoid any more questions or threats from the two heads of the First Order, Hux still had plenty to deal with regarding Ren's state of health. The doctors and nurses that began to attend to the knight easily determined the causes of his state, but in order to properly treat him—they needed that mask off of him. They couldn't figure out how to get it off without injuring him further, and didn't have the time to figure it out on their own, so they turned to the general to ask for his assistance.
As convenient as it would have been for Ren to stay unconscious, Hux would need to wake him again to get him to take it off.
While it was odd to let Luke Skywalker go after they were trying to find him for so long, Hux felt that it was overall the best decision to make. Death wasn't permanent here, at least according to several individuals in this city. It was easy to doubt, but still alarming enough for Hux to leave the Jedi alone. They couldn't go and cause a scene in the middle of a city when they were still unsure about the consequences here. Besides, he needed to make sure Kylo Ren was going to make it-- it was Snoke's direct orders to bring him back and the general had no intention to fail him.
He couldn't afford another mistake after Starkiller Base.
The failure of his life's work threatened to overtake him sometimes, but Hux managed to push it to the corner of his mind as he focused on the unconscious knight in front of him. The medical staff have proven to be adequate in their aid and it made Hux slightly less anxious about the situation. Although, they still needed to get Ren's helmet off and Hux unfortunately needed the man to be awake to get that thing off him.
"Ren." The general was standing by his bedside now, frowning at the stupid mask that was covering him. Ugh, go figure that Ren was still a pain in the ass even while asleep. Hux reached over to his shoulder to try and shake him without injuring him further.
[han did his best to wriggle out of a harsh sentencing, but after throwing nearly everyone he knows under a giant bus with "ENFORCERS" on the side he still ended up with a month of jailtime. but at least they didn't take his amulet, right?
knowing that it'll be a while before he's free, he decides to send a mental...message? nudge? whatever, he talks mentally in ren's direction and just kind of hopes he'll answer, unlike the million other times he's tried the same thing.]
Ben. [oops there's a little too much tenderness there, reel it in buddy. this is why the novelty of telepathy wore off so quickly for him, he has a hard time keeping his emotions out of it.] Hey, uh, you got a minute?
[Ren has been making some last preparations, "roaming" the city (reassuring himself of the right paths to take), when he hears the message. His father has the worst timing.
He has to stop and find a quiet place to stand so he doesn't... end up drawing attention to himself somehow, because knowing Han Solo, he'll say something that will get a reaction out of Ren, and he'd really rather not start snowing on everyone or crack the middle of the street open.
Ren keeps the connection open until he leans against the wall of an alleyway, letting Han know he's listening even though he's silent for a few moments. When his voice does finally come through, it's flat, just short of mildly irritated.]
He had felt it when Kylo Ren had returned, and Obi-Wan had wasted no time. It was his duty to oversee the younger man, as an Enforcer and... well. He wasn't sure what they were. It was a complicated relationship to be sure, but as he had said, Ren was family.
Hux hadn't seemed to object to his presence. They both had the same goal in mind after all. The Jedi had let Ren know of his presence, but it was obvious that the newly returned was in no shape to do much of anything. Thus he gave Ren his space when asked, but was there if he was needed.
Finally, at some point when Ren wasn't resting, and seemed to be in a mood for talking. Obi-Wan came to sit at his side. Speaking in a calm, soft tone.
Ren's first real attempts to speak with anyone was his message about the creature that had taken him after his death. After that, he'd managed a few more conversations without incident, but they were heavy enough to fatigue him further and make him less receptive to talking often.
He still had yet to get any real sleep—there was a distinct terror that forced his eyes open every time they closed, and any times he simply passed out from exhaustion were accompanied shortly after with nightmares—but he was improving slowly. He was still weak on his feet, but his Force abilities were back more or less enough for him to move around, and he had taken to spending most of his time in a chair he had dragged closer to the glass doors that opened to the back yard.
He was certainly glad for the fact that he'd thought to obtain a house instead of an apartment, at this point. He at least had some semblance privacy, and his own choice of where to stay.
Obi-Wan's presence nearby caught his attention before he spoke, and his eyes went to the Jedi as he sat. It took him a few moments before he understood what the other man meant, but when he did, his mouth opened slightly and his gaze fell to the floor.
[The day had only started but he had arrived at Kylo Ren's house with an Enforcer that would be able to do something about the man. Poe knew and understood the rules of the arrangement. But he would be at the door for now waiting and pondering if he should really be doing this. However, the other seemed more keen on making sure no more killing happened. What the blast was all of that about? It seemed really strange. Perhaps this place could change people into becoming better. That better being whatever Kylo Ren would think was better.]
[There's a book in his hands. It seems rather thick on first glance. Poe gives the Enforcer a glance as they seemed to be growing impatient. He would knock on the door a few times before glancing around the outside. It seemed small but it might actually be spacious on the inside. He shifts a little while putting the book down at his side instead of in front of him. For now, he didn't want Kylo Ren's attention drawn to it right away. He wanted to give it to him at the right moment. But.. is there ever a right moment when it comes to this man?]
[Ren answers the door with a neutral expression, and nothing in it changes even after he sees Poe in front of him. The pilot coming to see him has stopped being unexpected and started being something Ren considered an inevitability—more of a question of "when" than a question of "if."
He's dressed in something relatively simple, not unlike what he wore to the festival—high collared, long sleeved, gloves—though staying inside for so long means he's not bothering to wear a coat.]
Dameron.
[It's probably the first time he's addressed the man by name, but he doesn't bring any attention to it. He simply steps aside to allow Poe and the guard in, giving the latter a glance of acknowledgement. He has no reason to be particularly uncivil or annoyed; he's proven over the past month that he's willing to follow their rules and stay here, with a couple of exceptions regarding the sharing of information: the Symposium and the meeting of the Arehtei. Even with those, however, he didn't exactly storm out without permission. He just bothered them until they finally said yes.
Ren is casual in his own home, even though it's been invaded by strangers and annoyances for the past month. The strangers have become acquaintances, and the annoyances less annoying. He simply strides forward towards the lone armchair and sits in it, peering at Poe curiously.]
Any particular reason for your visit today, or should I expect more vague conversations about our feelings?
[It's not too late in the night when Hux finally returns home-- returns to his temporary shared living area with Kylo Ren. He's not going to call the night a real success, but it hasn't been a complete waste of his time. It's just enough for Hux to consider attending more of these social gatherings in the future, to at least get more connections and understand this city just a bit more.
He steps into the house and it's not hard to see the fire that's burning in the backyard. It's enough for Hux to be slightly curious and he starts walking towards there instead of retiring to his room for the night.
Hux is still dressed in his outfit from the party and his hair is still free from its gel, but he doesn't seem too concerned about it as he stops next to Ren. For now, he doesn't say anything.]
[Kylo Ren also looks a bit different than usual when Hux returns, although of course he didn't attend any of the festivities. He's leaning back in a chair near the fire pit, his bare hands curled loosely around the armrests and his collar unbuttoned, looking pensive, almost glum. It's difficult to tell whether the stark shadows in the area are merely due to the fire or thanks to Ren's mood.
It was easy to sense his roommate's return, even if he hadn't heard it. He doesn't turn to the man when he approaches, however; his eyes never leave the fire. Ren's voice is soft when he speaks, and largely neutral.]
Did you find the limits of your willingness to indulge in leisure?
[it isn't difficult to hear about Skywalker drama in Verens, even if you've been in another city for the majority of said incident. It's been long enough that Anakin can be reasonably sure he isn't going to repeat the mistakes he made the last time they had this conversation, so he finally gathers his patience and makes the call.]
Kylo. It's been a while. How was your trip with--
[He almost says “your uncle”, but he thinks better of it at the last moment and goes for something more neutral.]
Luke?
[He sounds rougher than usual, but he's better than he was a few weeks ago, after Padme vanished. There's little risk of Vader appearing at the moment.]
[Grandfather's presence is always mildly alarming at first, even if that feeling quickly fades into bitter irritation. Being contacted by Anakin through the amulets is an entirely new feeling, however, so there's a hint of surprise added to that mixture even as some suspicion arises.
He expects to get yelled at if he suggests even the slightest amount of trouble, and he's not really interested in that, so he's not planning on sharing any details without some serious digging.]
... fine.
[And technically it's true. Neither of them came out of it terribly worse for the wear. No fighting happened. It was fine.]
[To be completely honest, the meeting with Sosyne went a lot better than he expected. For one, he didn't get smashed or suffer through anything traumatic and he's only just a bit wet from the Arehtei's splash. That is just a minor inconvenience, especially since he managed to get a glimpse of his galaxy once more. Visions of his universe and where things made sense. A possible hint to returning home, which is more than he can say for the past couple of months.
It almost gives him hope.
He steps inside their shared house and he stops to look around for a moment, not seeing Ren just yet. Hm, while he doesn't need to tell his co-commander the news right away, Hux figures to try at least contact him through the amulets.]
[The opening of the connection is almost sluggish, but in a purposeful way, and a sense of stillness comes through. Hux should be familiar enough with the knight's occasional meditation by now to recognize that this is likely what he's doing.
The words that come through are solid enough, but they almost seem to have no voice to accompany them—a reflection of that emptying of himself from any distractions, including thoughts of his own voice.]
[Ever since the... incident with the couch, Hux has been somewhat avoiding Ren. Well, as much as one can avoid someone while living in the same house. Things have been a little awkward lately and he just doesn't want to face the fact that a part of him, no matter how tiny, enjoyed the warmth and comfort Ren provided.
It's becoming dangerously attached, weakness.
But a week is more than enough time to allow things to return to normal, right? As long as Ren doesn't bring it up, Hux won't either. Just pretend that everything is the same. And with the recent message Qui-Gon left him, Hux feels that it's about time to discuss more important matters with Ren.
So, he walks up to Ren's room and knocks on the door, because that's the polite thing to do.]
[Ren has been meditating for a few hours when Hux knocks, sitting in his relatively bare room cross-legged and dressed in his full robes and mask, minus the long surcoat. Although he wishes Hux had waited until he was finished, he supposes it wasn't a terrible session. The area around him has been bleached to a light grey and the air is cool and almost misty, as his usual successes result in, so it will do for now.
He doesn't move from his spot on the floor when he responds to the knock, and it doesn't occur to him that several short weeks ago he might have yelled at Hux for coming upstairs at all.]
[Leia felt bad about the way things had gone when she and Han had last visited Ben. She expected things to get heated, because that's how things always were between her and Han and Ben now, but she didn't want that to happen. She had been very adamant before they actually arrived and got into everything that they would talk things through calmly and make it known to Ben that despite what he seemed to want, they wouldn't just leave him alone. But of course it hadn't happened that way.
It's a combination of feeling bad plus having not seen Ben in weeks and wanting to see his face that has Leia on her way to his house today, a gift in hand as an attempt to apologize to him for that last meeting. She knows Ben enjoys cooking, and also that he's still under guard and presumably can't just go anywhere he likes, or to any other cities with no reason, so she's brought him a few different spices from Theasthai and Shaarnath that are used regularly in their food for his own experimentation.
It's lucky for Leia that today, whichever guard is on duty isn't keen on being subjected to yet another shouting match between the door about dating choices or Darth Vader or whatever nonsense the extended Skywalker family might get up to and lets her in before the fighting can start. Leia, on her own mission here, isn't about to question it.
So by the time Ben drags his sick self to the door, he will find Leia in the entryway working on removing her winter coat, and her apology gift set on whatever table is nearest to the door. If he's paying particular attention as she takes her coat off, once she turns around, he might also notice something like this clipped at her side.]
[Ren was in the middle of adjusting a few of the small parts of his own saber when the door is answered, so he pays little attention at first, thinking it might be Hux back from wherever he's gone. There's a blanket tossed over his shoulders that stays with him even when he decides to put his tinkering down and stand, wrapped around him like an enormous cloak.
When he does finally make his way to the entryway to greet (or glare at) his visitor, he stops and stares at his mother for several seconds before shooting a particularly sharp stare at the guard who walks past, who gives him a shrug in response as if daring him to do something about it. To say Kylo is displeased is an understatement, and the temperature has already risen sharply around him.
He's a lot more... grey looking than the last Leia saw him, his face pale and his hair almost desaturated. It's not quite to the alarming extent she saw him when that spirit possessed him, but it's a noticeable difference regardless.
His voice is pretty gravelly when he speaks, as well—because luckily he's gone and gotten himself sick, literally the day after Hux told him to avoid that. Whoops.]
What are you doing.
[He hasn't noticed her weapon yet, but he'll get to that. He's a bit tired, dark circles under his eyes.]
[In Kylo Ren's actual, physical mailbox is a large, carefully but low-keyed wrapped package, labeled only with the letter L. It's the season for giving and while Luke hasn't ever heard of the holiday before, he doesn't need a lot of reason to give gifts.
This one, however has been picked carefully for Kylo, despite the belts.]
[Ren's first instinct is to discard the package—Mother would have come and brought something herself, so the only other "L" he knows is...
It doesn't change anything, what he's done and what he'll have to do. And he doesn't celebrate whatever winter holiday some of the Otherworlders had been babbling about earlier in the month, so the time means nothing to him.
But... well, it's a sturdy coat, and one can never have too many of those. And really, if the belts get on his nerves, he knows enough about mending clothes to take them off.
He'll just conveniently not get what the L stands for, or just forget who it's from entirely.]
Hux has the most Unimpressed Face imaginable as he tends to Ren's recently reopened leg injury because he apparently couldn't wait to start training once more. Despite, you know, being injured. Patience has never been a virtue for Ren, but apparently common sense can be added to that list as well.]
[Hux had found him cursing under his breath, trying to make his leg work properly and hardly bothering to acknowledge his injury at all. Of course the redhead wasn't going to stand for that, and he'd dragged Ren inside to deal with it properly. Despite the pain and the fact his leg definitely needs treatment, Ren can only feel irritated that he's being forced to stop—he hates just sitting around and do nothing, and he can only meditate so much before it feels pointless.
Technically Hux can't force him to do much, but Ren knows he'd just be endlessly pestered if he didn't go along with it, and he's too emotionally exhausted to want to argue. His reply is through clenched teeth, and he's leaning his face against his palm, blocking most of the sullen scowl on his face.]
[All these holidays celebrated by the otherworlders not from their galaxy were a bit confusing, but that's not to say Leia doesn't appreciate the spirit behind them. This particular holiday being about people you love and appreciate, well, Ben fits that category, whether he wants to or not. She may not know much about Valentine's Day, but she knows that much.
On the 14th, Ben will get a delivery. No flowers here, and no chocolates, either. She doesn't know enough about the foods Ben prefers to confidently choose something he'd like. Instead, he gets a box filled with several different types of tea. There's a note with it indicating it's from her, but no explanation of the reason for the package if he's looking for one.]
[The note goes into the firepit—though it is read, which is more than he should be doing, he thinks—and the tea goes into the cabinet with no indications it's from anyone else. If Hux asks, he'll say he got it himself. And he'll refuse to admit where it came from to himself whenever he uses it, although he won't be able to entirely banish the knowledge...
It's just tea. It doesn't matter where it came from.]
[Kylo can probably sense Leia coming well before she gets there, both her approach and her general demeanor, which is on-edge and angry. Not the usual attitude she has when visiting Kylo. And it's not because of Kylo himself, not exactly. It's everything else that has her on edge.
If the door is unlocked, Leia will open it herself and enter the house looking for Kylo. If not, she'll wait for the door to be unlocked, or at least for Kylo to show up at the door. Because it's clear she's not willing to put up with his usual game of ignore his parents. She has things she needs to know from him, and he can be his usual self once she has answers.]
[He does indeed sense her approach, largely due to the negativity that's surrounding her, and after nearly rolling his eyes and informing his roommate of their imminent "guest," he does actually get up to open the door. She's obviously come for a reason and isn't about to be ignored, and Kylo has to admit to himself that he's curious as to what's got her so riled up.
It doesn't mean he's going to be polite, however.]
[Hux is angry, humiliated, and covered with the remains of a rather large insect. Of course, why did he expect any sort of mission with Organa to go well? Something has to explode on him with the day ending in complete bantha shit. And he smells like it too.
The thought of Organa saving him only sours his mood, not helped by the fact that Rey saved him just three weeks ago. Perhaps he needs to cut back his trips on missions for a while, because this is just embarrassing.
And he definitely doesn't want Ren to see him like this.
While he considers climbing in from the backyard, he doesn't want to go through that nonsense and instead quietly walks to the front door. Hopefully Ren will be in the back training or just meditating in his room. Hux can't tell sometimes.
No point wasting time just standing here, however, so he unlocks the door and silently steps inside.
[Whatever Ren had been doing, there wasn't much chance of him not noticing Hux's return—meditation would have helped him be more attuned to the other man's presence, and anywhere else he typically is, he would have heard or seen it.
Currently, he's training with his lightsaber in the backyard, and although there's a little bit of furniture, a glass door, and distance in the way, the space is open enough for him to catch a glimpse of Hux out of the corner of his eye.
He can't really tell much from this distance, however, aside from the fact that Hux appears to be grumpy and a bit dirty. From what, he has no idea. But at least he appears unharmed, which is the important part. For now, Kylo just watches.]
[ it hadn't been easy for Bodhi, to find the man who'd stepped in between him and Krennic. All he had were characteristics - the scar, lightsaber, tall - but it eventually gives him a name, and then he thinks he's found him.
He's not even sure why he feels compelled to seek him out. Chances of Kylo even remembering him are slim. ]
Um, hey.
I don't know if you remember me, maybe you don't. I mean, you probably don't - it it was kind of dark out... but you interrupted a meeting between me and another man. An Imperial?
[It certainly is a surprise to hear this voice, when he largely expected to never see hide nor hair of the man after he fled from the officer. While he'd been fine with that, he's not terribly opposed to this sudden contact, though he wonders if gratitude is all there is to it. Especially considering his reputation around here is "that guy who murdered people and then got eaten by a death monster." (Though thankfully sometimes it's just the first part.)]
... the pilot? I remember. [He still sounds as timid as he looked that day. It's easy to connect it to the face, though he only got a short look.]
Your thanks isn't needed. I merely wanted to make sure that fool was aware of the circumstances.
[He didn't often get angry. As a Jedi is was usually better than that. But his conversation with Poe Dameron had tested the limits of his patience. Not to mention practically giving him a verbal punch in the gut. It had left him with another burden he didn't need. Though, after talking to Rey, he was given... additional perspective.
Obi-Wan didn't want to do this. But he had to. This was his duty. As a Jedi, and as a friend to those involved. However, he knew this would not be easy. Regardless, he couldn't willingly leave that lightsaber in a Kylo Ren's hands.
So it's with that purpose in mind that the Jedi approached the house he has visited many times before. Coming to the front door and knocking in his customary way that the occupants would undoubtably recognize.]
[Ren had gotten a brief warning from Poe regarding said conversation, but he'd kept the conversation short. He wasn't pleased by the idea of the Jedi knowing what he now had in his possession, but what was done was done, and he could take care of himself.
As a result it's little surprise when Obi-Wan comes knocking, and a few seconds later, the knight opens the door and stares down at the older man. Several moments of silence pass as Ren dully watches Kenobi, but just before it gets to the point Obi-Wan might think it's his prerogative to speak, Kylo does, with a light tone that reflects just enough sarcasm to be obvious, and a brief, fake equivalent of a smile. It fades immediately.]
To what do I owe the pleasure.
[He knows why Kenobi is here. He hopes differently. But he knows.]
[ When the connection opens Ren would be meant witch confusion and anger. Even though he tries to push it back but he can take help his own feelings right now. He breathes out a little before speaking. ]
I wanted you to know that Kenobi knows. I didn't tell Rey where it was. She contacted me first in regards of it being Finn's. As soon as I didn't tell where though she's quickly called it hers and then promptly accused me of being a thief.
She went and told Kenobi that I was a thief. However, the conversation never lead back to why she contacted me in the first place.
So instead of the lightsaber being a sentimental value from a dear friend it turned into a weapon of light and Jedi business.
Even though I apologized several times for not knowing their way or the will of the Force. I got told I was being disrespectful.
When in truth, the story went from it being Finn's lightsaber to hers to other people who may want it.
I go to told to consider the feelings of others and their thoughts. Yet, I feel their actions and words are just as confusing. Feelings and thoughts change just like the seasons do. Actions and words are much more permenant.
Whose really in the wrong here? I know I should apologize to her for not telling her where. I'm not even sure if she told him the full story or not. He never once called it Finn's just that it was a saber that belonged to the light and that I was meddling with the Jedi affairs.
[ It should have stayed as a sentimental value from a dear friend. But it had became something much more. ]
[Ren was having a perfectly good day until this moment, at which point feelings and several, several words are shoved into his head (well, alright, he did accept the connection, but he didn't expect this), and as it goes on he gets more and more annoyed.
It's all met with silence for several seconds, and where he sits he brings a hand to pinch the bridge of his nose. Does he really have to deal with this?]
[Look, if you ask Leia, she doesn't really need a reason to visit Ben beyond the fact that, despite seeing him at the flower festival, she hasn't spoken with him in a long time. He's her son and she loves him and even if he's generally rude and dismissive, it's nice to hear his voice and know he's okay. It's a different sort of feeling than hearing him talk to someone else from a distance.
But Leia also knows that Ben doesn't quite agree with her, and that if she wants him to actually talk to her, she'll need a reason for this visit. And she does have a few reasons in mind, a few things she needs and wants clarification on. It's just a matter of where to start. ...Probably with the awkward one, get that out of the way, if possible.
She's sure Ben knows she's around, no matter what she does. So, as she draws closer to his house, Leia decides to, at the very least, give Ben some forewarning before showing up.]
[A great way to start the month, Kylo thinks: a conversation with his mother. But knowing how stubborn she is and not quite having the energy to shut her out entirely, he goes ahead and lets his first thought through:]
What do you want.
[It's probably a similar greeting to the one he gave the last time they spoke, but at least it's more... mildly annoyed rather than defensive and harsh. It's sort of an answer to her question, as well, though it... may be difficult to tell.]
[han is gearing up to head out on this crystal expedition, and he's got his crew ready. finn is sitting it out--han sent him home sick just the other day, and hasn't heard from him since, which is slightly concerning. he hopes the guy just wants some space to recover. but he's still got rey, and leia and natsume are tagging along too, which means the only other person missing from their happy little family is kylo ren.
han reaches out over the amulet as he works on hauling extra provisions onto the ship--he knows some other people will probably pop up wanting a ride for this little adventure, so he's stocking up.]
[The other end of the line opens without pause, and while normally Han would be met with slight annoyance or exasperation, there's absolutely no emotion in his monotone whatsoever.]
What is it.

[having spent his first night back cooing over leia and natsume, as soon as it gets to be light out han gets dressed and heads for the residence of his other son. you know, the original flavor.
he's pleased that he remembers where it is--it's a little weird, having all these memories kind of shoved in between what he remembers from back home, but at least he's not going into things blind again. he'd hate to forget what he has with this...version...of ben, even if they've had some rocky periods.
he gets to the door and, after a moment of thought, decides knocking would be the best choice. of course, as we know, han's definition of knocking is a little extra compared to the average person.]
BEN!! YOU HOME?
[is what he bellows cheerfully as he bangs on the door. he's baaaaaack...]
[He'd felt when Han had returned, of course, as expected; and though a part of him had feared he might be the man he'd pushed off that walkway, he'd sent that ridiculous message shortly afterward about potentially dropping (obviously) his younger self. It had alleviated some of his worries, at least, although he still didn't quite know what to expect or think. Or feel.
He'd put it aside for the moment, deciding to confront that issue at a less stupid hour... which it currently still has yet to become. What he doesn't expect, however, is for Han to immediately come and bother his son as soon as the sun is up, so the loud knock and veritable screaming through the door is enough to startle him and make him nearly drop his cup of tea.
... Kylo already has a headache.
He still has yet to completely shake the exhaustion from the amulet drain a week and a half prior, so he's woken up a little later than his usual break of dawn and is still shuffling around in his pajamas. With a heavy sigh, he manages to drag himself over to the door and open it to stare dully at his father.]
Please stop. [The neighbors probably hate Han's bellowing, too.]

[There's a lot about Verens that's been weighing in Leia's mind lately. How nice and scenic it all is, how she hasn't been in a place this relatively peaceful in... well, since she was much younger on Alderaan, probably. It was nice, not having to worry about war or the Empire or any of that here.
And then there were the people here. The people she didn't or couldn't meet this way back home. And thankfully for Leia, the shore of Lake Niras has both of those positive points today: peaceful scenery, and Ben just so happened to be there. He probably notices her, she's sure, and even if he wasn't about to approach her, that doesn't matter, since Leia is more than happy taking the initiative to approach him, regardless of whatever he's doing.]
It's nice to see you outside, Ben.
[Sure, he goes outside a lot, but usually she doesn't run into him outside of his house. Probably as he wants it.]
[Kylo has made a few trips to the lake before, but it's never quite been for the same purpose he's visiting now. Today, he's there for a relatively similar reason to Leia, appreciating the view of it as he thinks of how much he'd like to stay as long as possible.
It's easy enough to tell when his mother starts to approach, and he doesn't bother to turn to her from where he's sitting as she addresses him. She's hardly worth his time, and her presence is ruining the scenery and his mood... Having her here is one of the few downsides to staying in Verens more permanently.]
[It's been a few days since all this came to mind, a few days for Leia to sort out her thoughts on everything. Rather than jumping in on her own, her first idea is to consult Ben, to see how things were when he was growing up, if he's willing to provide that much. It's a harmless risk, and one she's more than willing to take, given that she's always interested in speaking with Ben. She'd tried to reach him a few times in the days before this, but to no avail, with him, for all she knew, ignoring her questions.]
I have something I'd like to ask you.
[And before he can just shut her out, if he were so inclined, she continues--]
When you were younger, was there a day we chose to celebrate your father's birthday?
[Ugh... this isn't what he wanted when he got back from his outing, but at least he got several days out on his own with nothing but nature and quiet. He was going to have to come back to all this eventually.]
Don't encourage him to get up to anything more than he already does.
[He doesn't think Han actually gets up to anything too crazy in Verens, but it's a good way to deflect from the question. Just to be difficult. He can never give his mother a straight answer.]
[It may be well over a year since Leia found herself here in Verens, but unfortunately even in that time, her cooking talent is... well, less than talented. Better than before, yes, but not fantastic, owing to the ease of ordering food or just making something that doesn't actually require cooking.
The exception to that is, thanks to Bail being here, Leia has taken to trying to figure out approximations of Alderaanian recipes here. His experience with cooking made finding substitutes for foods she knew well much easier than before. Her cooking isn't up to his skill level, no, but it's passable and tastes like it should, which is the important part really. And it's because of that that Leia, dressed in a coat suiting the weather but no scarf or anything of the sort, is at Kylo's door--knocking, sealed dish in hand--today. Even if he doesn't wind up talking with her much at all (or even if he winds up throwing the food away), she at least has to try and share his Alderaanian heritage with him, as best as she can here.]
[Kylo answers the door with slightly more speed than usual with his mother—but seeing as he doesn't always answer the door period, that's not a high bar to make. So basically, he gets to the door after a minute or two.
His hair is tied back low against his neck, and his sleeves are rolled up; he was clearly in the middle of something before she knocked on the door, but the dull look on his face isn't any different from any of the other times he's "greeted" her.
There's an oddly familiar smell in the air, now that the door is open.]
