[He doesn't answer that question for a long time, as various thoughts go through his head. No, he doesn't necessarily think that he means little to Ren, but not as much as that scavenger. When it comes down to it, Hux is rather certain that Ren would choose her over him, despite everything they went through together.
Maybe he's jumping to conclusions, but she has the Force. Ren betrayed the Order and Snoke for her. Hux doubts Ren would do the same for him. Besides, wouldn't be the first time a person from Jakku took away something that he wanted.]
Don't try and tell me that you'd pick me over her.
[As much as he tries to think of where he might have gone wrong to make the other man assume such a thing, he can't come up with anything concrete. He kept the secret of who killed Snoke, and why, yes—but is that really enough to negate everything they've been through?]
Why would you think that? [If he comes across as a little desperate, he wouldn't even deny it.] I love you. That hasn't changed.
[Hux actually softens slightly when he hears those three words. Such weakness, to have his mind swayed by them, but he can't find himself holding onto his anger. He knows that Ren means it; he's not the type to say something like that just to manipulate him (that's something Hux would do).]
You're still willing to stay by me?
[He doesn't mean to come out so pathetic, but there's a deep insecurity in his expression that Hux can't hide.]
[Wanting Armitage to be closer won't make anything happen on its own, as easier as it would make things, so instead Kylo gets to his feet to approach in a few slow steps. He reaches out hesitantly for Hux's arms, hoping he'll accept the touch.]
I could never leave you. [Guilty, he turns his gaze to the floor for a moment before he looks back up.] And I'll never lie to you again. I promise.
[He steps closer to Ren, wordlessly allowing him to grasp onto his arms. He's never the type to ask for contact, but it's still obvious that he wants his partner to be close with him with now. It doesn't help that Hux is feeling pathetically vulnerable too. Guess it's a side effect of Ren saying those words to him.]
You promised now, just like before. [Ren's true to his word, right? He hasn't abandoned Hux so far, although he just learned that he betrayed Snoke for one girl. But it's different with him, right? Because Ren actually cares about him...
[The fact that Armitage does move closer is enough for Kylo to feel a bit relieved, and some of the greyed living room returns to its former brightness. His right hand moves down to grasp Hux's left, fingers curling around where he knows the green ring to be.]
[Ren will certainly find the ring on Hux's hand, despite the glove covering it. He hasn't left the house without it, even while he was upset with him. As much as he hates being sentimental, the ring brings a certain comfort to Hux. It's a reminder of Ren's promise...]
...As long as you feel that way, I won't leave you either. [He admits quietly, but sincerely.]
[Kylo lets out a shaky breath as his shoulders relax slightly, the words reassuring him in a way he didn't know he needed to be. He supposes he was as worried as Hux was, in a way, even if the fear didn't arise consciously until just now.
He pulls Armitage into his arms, not wanting to get too emotional all over again. He can only handle so much.]
[Over the course of the past two weeks, Hux has been returning home later and later and when he does, he's done his best to avoid speaking to Ren and just isolate himself in his own room. What's there to say to him? The general still hates the knight with his entire being, because if he doesn't, then he'll have to admit that he feels jealous and hurt and insignificant.
It's much easier to be angry and filled with loathing for Ren.
So this pattern of behavior lasts until the night of the 15th, where Hux doesn't return at all. Now it's morning and there's still no sign of the general.]
[As soon as Kylo wakes up from his unintentional sleep early that morning, he jolts upright and gets to his feet, realizing that he'd eventually drifted off waiting for the other man to return to their home.
He hadn't come back.
He hadn't come back, so where was he? Was Armitage alright? With his distance lately, it was reasonable to assume that he had just decided not to come back, but then where would he go? And what if he hadn't willingly decided and was trapped somewhere, or even injured?
Not willing to take that risk, Kylo heads out immediately to search, attempting to contact Hux over the amulets.]
[Unfortunately, Hux would not answer any of Ren's attempts to contact him. The only way to locate him is through the Force, as the locals don't have any useful information to provide either.
Whether it takes Ren one hour or many, he'll eventually find Hux in an abandoned building near the more shadier parts of the city. It's strange for the general to be in this area to begin with, but it's apparent that he stayed here overnight.
Hux is propped up against the wall, his sleep deprived eyes taking in Ren's appearance, but he doesn't react otherwise. It's a wonder that he wasn't mugged or injured in any sort of manner.]
[Far too worried to really be concerned about Hux's desire to leave him, Ren almost jogs forward, kneeling by the redhead's side as he puts a hand on the other man's shoulder.]
Are you alright?
[Surely the man wouldn't have just stayed out in an abandoned building for the sake of getting away from him if nothing else was wrong? There are enough inns and the two of them have enough money that he could have stayed in some kind of furnished room. Ren wouldn't have been nearly as worried if he'd found the man there, rather than in the slums.]
[For a while, Hux doesn't say anything. He continues to stare at Ren with a dull sort of expression, the wall behind him losing whatever color that it might've had.]
...Why are you here.
[He doesn't sound angry anymore, but the quietness in his voice might be just as alarming to Ren. There's something almost defeated in Hux that is probably unfamiliar, especially given how driven he's been his entire life.]
[As obvious as he may think the reasoning may be, he's nonetheless open to explaining it if it will help Hux at all.]
You didn't come home. I was worried.
[The utter lack of feeling that he can sense not only through the Force but also through this world's effects and the sound of his voice is indeed concerning. Anger is what Kylo would expect from the other man, or even quiet hatred. Not nothing.]
[Perhaps he should be elated by that, but Hux can't find it within himself to care at all still. Why does it matter? Their relationship will mean nothing back in their galaxy and he's already being replaced by Rey in this world. Ren might worry for a few days, but he'll be fine without him, Hux is sure about that.]
[Whatever Hux might say to him, even if he declares his hatred all over again and says he never wants to see him again—Ren wants to at least make sure he's not sitting in the slums for no reason, under a roof that seems like it should have collapsed a week ago.]
[Cracks begin to spread across the wall, reaching towards the ceiling and the ground. It doesn't look like it'll take much before the whole building collapses, but Hux doesn't move still.]
[Kylo's eyes go to those cracks, a sharpness to his gaze momentarily before he pulls the other man to his feet. If he doesn't care, then Kylo will have to do the caring himself—and he knows that talking about it would take far too long. As hesitant as he's been to make major decisions lately, sometimes it's just better to do.]
Another month, another batch of new arrivals. Nobody from Kylo Ren's world, this month. Nobody from Kevin's. So it should be a pretty peaceful evening, right? They can both breathe a sigh of relief at the utter lack of new drama (there's no new Voltrons, either) and enjoy doing whatever it is they are going to do in the weeks leading up to Helisium.
"KYLO REN!"
Yeah, no. Kevin is having an Issue™. And it is an Issue™ that has him barging unrepentantly into Kylo's house -- or trying to -- bellowing his name with nary the slightest bit of regard for things like Kylo's boyfriend or the droid thing, both of which he probably tried and failed to bond with the last time he was over here trying to make Kylo drink tea. He's angry enough that he's shedding tiny fires everywhere as he goes, but fortunately, they snuff out quickly, and they don't actually leave any scorchmarks or ash in their wake.
They leave salt. Kevin is setting fires, and the fires are creating little piles of salt. The Issue™ is that petty.
Ren cannot imagine what in the world would bring Kevin Regnard to his door—which he has thankfully decided should still be locked most of the time—shouting his name in such a manner. If it was actually dire, the amulets would have sufficed. This is clearly some other kind of issue.
... out of boredom and reluctant curiosity, he heads to the door and opens it, pinning Regnard with a skeptical, slightly annoyed look. He's definitely much more himself compared to the last time Kevin was here.
GOD. Fucking locked door, ruining Kevin's dramatic barging. Kylo will be able to look back later and laugh to himself about the whomp noise when Kevin collided with it as it refused to open.
More importantly:
"I have something of great importance to show you," Kevin announces. He proceeds to whip out what is, to all appearances, the handle of a lightsaber, and when he activates it, the laser blade shines red and deadly. Except that when Kevin hikes a leg, braces it against the door frame, and stabs himself in the foot with it, it squeaks, rather than causing grievous bodily injury as is proper for a laser sword.
It squeaks, and it manifests a couple of shiny pinkish bubbles. Just to drive the point home, Kevin stares at Kylo's face, watching for his reaction while he stabs himself repeatedly. More bubbles. The lightsaber squeaks bitchily.
Although his senses aren't exactly screaming danger, one typically gains enough reflexes to immediately tense at the sight of a lit lightsaber, Force senses or not.
