[It's certainly not odd for Hux to slip out of bed before Ren does, no, even if sometimes he complains a bit about it.
It's to that end that Ren finally gets up and heads out of what is technically Hux's bedroom but tends to be their bedroom in practice, not yet thinking about the smells that are starting to spread through the house.
At the display that meets him when he steps into the living room, though, he has to stop and stare. He's not quite sure what he's looking at for a few moments.]
[The small uncertainty that Hux was feeling only increases when he sees Ren's reaction. He's just... staring. That's normally not a good sign, right? Well, it's far too late to go back on this, so he just folds his arms and looks away, refusing to meet Ren's eyes.
[Ren blinks rapidly for a few moments, his mouth opening slightly as he glances to each part of the display, evenly spaced boxes to fresh breakfast on a tray, and a number of red orchids bloom from between the floorboards. Shaking his head as if to snap himself out of it, he steps forward to cradle Hux's face with both hands and leans in for a kiss.
He's not just doing that to hide the fact that he's tearing up. He's just got something in his eyes, that's all.]
[He sees the flowers from the corner of his eye, a clear sign that Ren is pleased. Well, good... guess all that anxiety was misplaced in the end. Humph, of course. His plans always go without failure! It's no surprise that he calculated everything well and was successful in the end.
...He still can't help but be relieved though.]
I see that you're-- [He cuts himself off when Ren places his hands on his face, leaning up to kiss his partner. He'll definitely accept this. In fact, he'll be nice enough to not comment about the tears for now.]
[Don't mind veritable garden in the room as Ren gets a hold of himself, Hux. After a few seconds, he breaks off the kiss and tries to sniff discreetly, immediately breaking his gaze from the other man and glancing to the gifts. He hasn't let go of the redhead, however; he feels the need to keep his hands on Hux to reassure himself he's not just dreaming this up.]
[S-such a reaction from Ren... it's more than he expected. The magnitude of this garden along with the tears that he's obviously trying to hold back, it makes Hux feel good about what he's done.
It's strange, to have such a feeling that doesn't involve murder or taking over the galaxy.]
I suppose you can start anywhere, but I suggest that you eat your breakfast before it gets cold.
[Ren lets out a weak, almost nervous chuckle before shaking his head at himself and turning to said breakfast, his left hand lingering on Hux for a moment before he finally detaches himself. He can't drag the redhead along with him if he's going to sit and eat. (Well, he can, but he's not certain how practical it would be.)]
Of course. [Food first. It seems appropriate. Perhaps it will give him a few moments to take in the notion of Hux having prepared something so nice purely for him...]
[...Why hasn't he tried it yet?! EAT THE FOOD ALREADY. Hux begins to dig his fingers into his palms, trying to subdue the sudden anxiety that popped up. If the food isn't good, then everything will be less than perfect. A blemish on a day that his stupid partner is supposed to enjoy--]
[Ren is quick to reassure Hux that he does indeed like absolutely everything about what he's set up, first picking up the tray with one hand before he replies.]
It does.
[He doesn't head for the table, however; he takes a long step over to Hux almost hurriedly, putting his free arm around his partner.]
But it wouldn't be complete without you joining me.
[He not only looks relieved by the reassurance, but pleased. Ren truly seems to be enjoying every part of his birthday so far. He just needs to keep this momentum until the day ends! That's the task he set for himself and Hux will fulfill it.]
Hm, very well. I'll start brewing a cup of coffee for myself as you sit down and eat.
[His eyes crinkle in a smile for a moment, and though he'd prefer to keep the redhead right next to him, he can abide a few minutes while Armitage gets his coffee. He returns his arm to his own side as he leans back.]
Of course.
[So Ren heads to the dining table to sit, flowers and glittering sparks trailing after him, and starts on his breakfast as instructed. Perhaps it's just his emotional effects talking, but he doesn't think he's had such a nice meal in a very long time.]
[Look at all those flowers and sparks. Ren is very pleased, isn't he? Hux feels satisfied as he goes to make coffee, unaware of the fact that he's making everything shiny around him. There's also a pleasant smell in the air.]
After you finish, we can begin opening those presents. I was uncertain of what to get you, so I bought multiple items.
[Kylo is certainly eager to find out what Hux has gotten him, but honestly, even if they're all subpar gifts as far as him being interested, the fact that the redhead has gone through all this trouble is plenty for him.
... still, the more childish part of him does hope they're nice.]
[He's definitely not going to mention that he asked the entire telepathic network about what to get for Ren's birthday. Less said about that, the better.]
...If you wish to do something else tonight, I'll go along with it.
[Whether that's going to a restaurant, staying at home, or whatever, he's open to it this time. Even if Ren just wants to... cuddle all day.]
[Armitage is careful not to say the word anything, Kylo notes. A strategic choice, he's sure.]
I'll have to think on it, but of course I want to spend it with you.
[Although he wants to keep his attention on Hux, he makes sure to return to his food, if just to show his appreciation. And he wants to get to the gifts, too.]
[Yes, well obviously. Ren better not have other plans with someone else. For some reason, that possibility never crossed his mind even though it's... slightly plausible. It's not like his partner is popular around here!!
Not that Hux can talk.]
I cleared out my schedule for today, so you'll have time to think about it. [But don't think too hard, Kylo.]
[Taking bites between responses, Ren is struggling between taking his time to enjoy the food and trying to get through it in order to do other things. For instance: presents. And also Hux's presence.]
I'll let you know as soon as I think of something.
[He gestures for Hux to hurry over with his coffee and sit nearby, impatient to at least have his partner close by. Though if Armitage wants to pick up a gift for Kylo to open at the table, he won't argue.]
{Hux eventually sits down across from Ren and places his carefully prepared coffee onto the table as he watches him eat. He's very aware by now that Kylo truly appreciates what he got for him, but this sort of thing is still new and kinda awkward to him. He really doesn't know how to behave or act now, so he just drinks his coffee until Ren says something.
...
He already said happy birthday. Check. Gave the breakfast. Check. Showed the gifts. Check.]
[It's a look that he's seen before, although not too often. But whenever that expression is directed towards him, he feels something warm develop in his own chest, a feeling that he didn't experience before getting into this relationship with Ren.
...Although, that feeling quickly goes away when he hears that comment, a frown quickly forming. What's that supposed to mean?! Way to ruin the moment, Kylo!!]
Of course I remember! You think I'm incapable of memorizing something as simple as that?!
They don't mean anything to me. You should be well-aware that the First Order doesn't take note of such pointless days.
[Of course, that contradicts the fact that Hux did bother to remember Ren's birthday. He decides not to point that out, unless Ren wants to bring it up. Talking about feelings is still difficult to him, especially ones that express positive sentiment towards another individual.]
[Hux is certainly being difficult about all this. Not that that's unexpected, but he was hoping a simple explanation wouldn't result in this sort of defensiveness. He looks down at his plate, but then gives the redhead a faint smile.]
Perhaps I was still expecting General Hux instead of Armitage.
[Hux stares down at his coffee, not quite sure what to really say. It's a sentiment that Ren has expressed to him before, but it always sounds so odd to him. He can understand what he's trying to get at, since General Hux of the First Order would not care about Kylo Ren, let alone his birthday.
Before coming here, there was truly no separation between the general and Armitage. But he's been away from the First Order for almost two years now, something that has never happened to him before...]
You're speaking as of Armitage is a weak willed boy who would remember things like birthdays.
[Ren is puzzled by the comment, a slight furrow in his brow as he responds. Where in the world did that idea come from?]
The very last thing I would ever call you is weak willed, Armitage. Remembering sentimental things doesn't make you weak.
[... that's not what Snoke would say, probably, but honestly? Kylo doesn't give half a damn about what Supreme Leader might think about this. About them.]
