[The nervousness given off by Anakin is matched by Ren's own anxious hesitation, and he pauses for several moments as he considers the question. It's fairly obvious that the Jedi means to offer himself up for the task, rather than anyone else. Ren isn't sure if that's a deal breaker or not.]
Help out how, exactly.
[He's not really interested in getting practice in how to escape a Force choke, thanks.]
[Anakin doesn't hesitate to answer. He was hoping to be asked this, so he's prepared when it comes.]
Sparring. Practicing forms together. That kind of thing.
[The nerves are really amping up now, but he does his best to project his genuine interest at Kylo, to make sure his good intentions come through as much as possible.]
Practicing alone gets dull, and there's no one else there to tell you where you're slipping. I'm tired of it.
[Kylo sounds mildly offended, having no idea what Anakin is referring to. Why would he be tired of practicing alone—he has his own mentor here in Obi-Wan, doesn't he? Would they not be training together?
... he has to admit he's a little amused by the thought of correcting the other man, though. It's so strange to think he's actually older than his grandfather at the moment.]
[Anakin laughs, guessing that Kylo's disbelief comes from the fact that Obi-Wan is around. They've been meeting up often enough that even Anakin has noticed, though he tries not to interfere.]
I've been practicing with the same man since I first held a lightsaber. He's great, but he can't help me get out of this rut when he's the same as he always is.
[Obi-Wan is fantastic, but when you've seen the same moves over and over for a decade, no matter how improved, you start to get a little bored.]
Besides. I haven't seen what you're capable of yet. Are you interested?
[He supposes that's fair; Kylo himself has had two separate teachers and likely started his training later in life than Anakin did, so he hasn't experienced such a thing yet. (Though he did tire of Luke's methods in general rather quickly.)
... and it is a chance to practice with a different style of lightsaber combat, even if he's still working back up to his full capabilities with his left hand, since his right is mostly useless now.]
I might be.
[He just needs a little more incentive. He's waiting to see what else Anakin is willing to offer.]
[To be completely honest, the meeting with Sosyne went a lot better than he expected. For one, he didn't get smashed or suffer through anything traumatic and he's only just a bit wet from the Arehtei's splash. That is just a minor inconvenience, especially since he managed to get a glimpse of his galaxy once more. Visions of his universe and where things made sense. A possible hint to returning home, which is more than he can say for the past couple of months.
It almost gives him hope.
He steps inside their shared house and he stops to look around for a moment, not seeing Ren just yet. Hm, while he doesn't need to tell his co-commander the news right away, Hux figures to try at least contact him through the amulets.]
[The opening of the connection is almost sluggish, but in a purposeful way, and a sense of stillness comes through. Hux should be familiar enough with the knight's occasional meditation by now to recognize that this is likely what he's doing.
The words that come through are solid enough, but they almost seem to have no voice to accompany them—a reflection of that emptying of himself from any distractions, including thoughts of his own voice.]
[Hux is now familiar enough with Ren's moods to know that the knight must be meditating at the moment. This still feeling normally only comes when he's trying to rid himself of any external noise and Hux normally leaves him to it. He really has no interest in doing such a thing himself, but... he respects Ren enough to not interrupt anything.
But today is an exception, so he continues to speak.]
I've just returned from my meeting with Sosyne. She showed me a vision when I gave her my completed crystal.
[A sharp feeling of interest crosses the conversation, a sudden ripple in that stillness as Ren starts to come to the surface, so to speak. His voice comes through now.]
[Ah good, so he's interested enough to talk about this now. Hux can wait, but he definitely prefers to let Ren know about this right away. There's honestly no one else that he wants to tell about this, especially the other people from his galaxy.]
Here, I'll show you.
[With the amulet's help, Hux is able to replay the memory of his galaxy. Most of the details are there and Ren will probably notice the feeling of longing that accompanies the vision, along with a hope that hasn't been present in Hux for a while.]
[He does feel it, and it's matched with Ren's own feelings, which are much the same. And there was that odd, slight pull, too... was this the source of that disturbance?]
Home... I thought I'd felt something of it earlier.
[The matched feelings only amplifies Hux's own emotions. It's almost comforting to know that his First Order ally shares the exact longing that he does. He very well knows that the both of them have become weak in some ways, but having that unity eases some of the tension that Hux's been carrying.
To think that he'd even depend on Ren's feelings like this...
He decides not to examine that too much, instead he focuses on what the knight actually said to him. Ren was able to feel it?]
It was only a flicker, less than a second. I thought I may have been mistaken.
[But... apparently it wasn't. The only reason he was able to sense it is because he's been meditating all day, and there was nothing else to get in the way. After that he'd tried to find the source of it, but found nothing.
Ren is hesitant to be truly hopeful, but it's there nonetheless. There's some key to it there, he's sure.]
Considering the vision only lasted a few seconds itself, it's not surprising.
[Still, those few seconds were well worth it. It's not like he really has to go out of his way to fill his crystal, since Ren is a source of various irritating emotions. And... other non as irritating ones. But point is, Hux doesn't have to endanger himself to complete his crystal and thus it's not a big issue, even if it turns out they're not related to going home.
However, Hux still has that hope, especially since Ren was able to sense it. It wasn't just a memory, right?]
Indeed. Although, Sosyne claimed she didn't know the significance of these visions and seemed to have no control over them.
[As Hux continues, he'll hear Ren's footsteps above him, heading towards and eventually down the stairs. The knight keeps the connection open in case Hux has anything else to show him, but when he responds, it's with his physical voice.]
That's not a surprise. They seem to know little about our presence here.
[He's in his black robes minus the outer layer, gloved hand on the side rail as he steps down to the first floor.]
Whether they know how it works doesn't matter. If we can use them and our crystals to return... that's all we need.
[Hux looks up as Ren walks down the stairs, nodding in agreement to his comment. It's becoming more and more likely that they truly aren't responsible for their arrival on this planet or at the very least, don't know that they are somehow related to it.
Which means that the individuals in charge are most likely responsible or some group that they haven't met yet.]
Completing a crystal takes months... I wonder if giving the Arehtei more of them at once will be beneficial, especially if we're from the same galaxy.
We should hand over more of them regardless, if just so I can study the feeling further.
[If he can just reach out to that again, now that he knows it's real... maybe he can get a sense of how to use it. He strides over to the living room, where he expects Hux to join him.]
I have read there will be a collection like that shortly, near the tree in the market square. One of the Arehtei requested it itself.
[Hux follows Ren into the living room, thinking about the upcoming crystal collection. Perhaps it would be wise to go, especially if more people are turning in their crystals to the Arehtei. Even if Ren won't be able to recognize their home worlds, maybe a similar feeling will still arise.]
We should go, perhaps something revealing will occur there. [Not like they have much to do here.] With any luck, someone from our galaxy will be there and turning in a crystal as well.
[Ren lets out a frustrated breath as he sits in his chair, frowning slightly. It's supposed to be very soon, isn't it? Within the next two days or so.]
It might be more of a hassle to get me there than it would be worth.
[He has to do a lot of whining beforehand before the Enforcers let him go places, most of the time.]
[He takes a seat across from Ren, considering his words for a bit. He's not wrong, it would be a mostly irritating endeavor that Hux could just show him after the event is over. He'll be able to sense it from this house at least, so perhaps that will be good enough.]
I will do so. [Not like Hux has a lot of things on his plate.] You very well should know that all important information will be relayed to you.
[Ren turns an eye towards Hux, though he's not facing the other man entirely.]
I know. [He can't really find it in himself to be belligerent or particularly haughty about it, given what Hux is going through. Perhaps he'll blame this next admission on that as well:] I trust you.
[At least it's said with more of a straightforward tone than anything particularly... sensitive or embarrassing. But he doesn't try to clarify with anything like "with that much," for some reason, though he does look away.]
[The general looks mildly surprised by the admission. While Ren should trust him, since Hux is a completely reliable individual that doesn't do anything in half-measures, it's still shocking to hear him admit it out loud. Their pride just doesn't allow for these sort of admissions.
Although, they have both been more... open with each other lately.
But it's still satisfying to hear Ren tell him this. Hux can't stop himself from making the floor shiny around him and a pleasant scent starts to fill the air.]
We've worked together for quite a long time now. [Trying to make it sound less of a big deal.]
Basic trust is needed for any alliance to be successful.
[He lets out an amused huff at the scent and the sight of the suddenly-clean floors. It's nice to know that Hux is pleased by the remark, at least.
Hux started it anyway, so he had better be pleased. Ren didn't say that just to say it.]
I never would have thought it would end up like this between us. [He never imagined he'd give half a damn about Hux, let alone... care. And he doesn't like to admit it, but he does care.]
[To think they would be this amiable... but he supposes it's not a bad thing for aforementioned reasons. Although, genuinely caring about Ren was not part of his plan. He could accept using Ren and his powers and pretending to care, but for actual concern to show up...? Hux doesn't know how to deal with that, if he's honest.
It's a feeling that he really hasn't experienced before, to be worried about an individual and actually be concerned about them. This place is truly terrible for affecting him like this.
Well, at least Ren ruined the mood with that comment.]
Humph, I'm a general of the First Order, Ren. I did not get to this position by formulating useless plans; you should've been able to see my merit before coming to this world. [Hux trying to be more like himself, perhaps in an almost exaggerated manner.]
