[It's strange for Leia, hearing that. Because as much as she hates Anakin, she's glad to know that he has at least enough sense to not fight and injure Ben. It's far more than she expected from him, and it's a weird thing to think about.
But there's more than that, she knows. If it was just Ben feeling disrespected, he would have said as much, not give a vague nonanswer to her question.]
[The only reason he complies with the request is to put the terrible image burned into his mind into hers. And what better way to do that than directly?]
You can see for yourself.
[Without warning, he sends a memory across the amulets. His pathetic excuse for a grandfather and the man who raised him, out in the open in the middle of everyone trying to channel their envy towards opening Aiada's temple, not only showing a complete lack of restraint for the sake of their task but also being utterly shameless. Kylo's disdain and disgust color the memory a bit, but they do nothing to obscure it.
Kylo holds grudges pretty bad, and this is just icing on the cake, really.]
[She hesitates at first, unsure what he's sending her, but it isn't long before Leia accepts the memory. If she wants to understand what happened to Ben--and she does--she knows she needs to see what it was that bothered him this badly. She's not sure what she expected, but she is sure it wasn't this.
Even without Kylo's disdain and disgust coloring the memory, Leia would feel exactly the same, her disgust evident on her face as she continues to watch. There's a lot to deal with here, beyond the obvious, and more than anything, the main thing Leia focuses on is not Anakin, but Obi-Wan. This isn't something she expects from Anakin, but it's not as if she has high expectations of him in the first place, but Obi-Wan? All this does is make her question just where Obi-Wan's defense of Anakin was actually coming from.]
How long has this been going on?
[Because by Anakin's responses, it seems like this wasn't the first time for them.]
[As stoic as he intends to be towards his mother, he does internally appreciate the fact that she shares the same thoughts about it as he does. At least as far as he can sense. It's good enough for him.
One can always trust Leia Organa to judge people, after all.]
Two months at least.
[That's how long ago that memory was, in any case.]
I prefer not to know any more details about their relationship.
Honestly, this much information is already more than I ever wanted to know.
[And more than she ever wanted to see, as well. She isn't sure whether she would've believed Ben wasn't entirely exaggerating things if he had just told her what he saw, but part of her wishes he had done that instead, to spare her this mental image.]
I thought they would have more sense of propriety than this.
[Because clearly they were meant to be helping out and not making out, but well. She can see how that went.]
[Leia's preference has only occurred to him in the sense of what he wants to do in order to aggravate or upset her, unfortunately. Plus, this way he doesn't have to actually spend his energy trying to explain it.]
You expect too much. The Jedi have never done what's appropriate.
I can’t imagine being a Jedi has anything to do with this.
[well it’s more that she can’t imagine this being something the Jedi order would be okay with in the first place. She may not know too much in depth about the Jedi order, not beyond stories about the Jedi from Bail or what she’s been told by Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan here, but what she does know is that attachments weren’t something the Jedi looked favorably upon.]
[It's not as if she likes comparing Ben to Anakin. She doesn't want them to be alike in any way, as many similarities in how unpredictable and angry they could be there are.
But if Ben doesn't want those comparisons, Leia is happy to oblige. Not just because pf this (or because she generally thinks higher of Ben anyway), but also because, to her, any rejection of Anakin from Ben is a step in the right direction.]
It hasn't been something I've been bringing up in casual conversation.
[Mainly because he'd like to forget it. Hux knows, but it's not as if Leia would care about that in particular. Hux would be judging the Jedi even without knowing that piece of information, anyway.
But if Leia wants to spread it around, Kylo's not going to stop her. Let them reap whatever may come from this. (As if he isn't halfway attempting to keep his own relationship from the Enforcers as a whole...)]
[Leia nods, conceding Kylo's point. It's not something she would know how to bring up herself in the first place, really, but at least she knows now that she's not one of one or two people (because there's no way Han would have known and not told her) not aware of this.
...Though she isn't sure being one of a few who is feels any better.]
For the best. I don't know if there's any way to bring it up in conversation with anyone else.
[As nice as it is to judge someone as a family and all—Kylo has no plans to simply let his mother back in the house after forcibly tossing her outside. Despite the temporary distraction, he hasn't forgotten the realization that drove him to start actively pushing her away again.
It's for her own damn sake, but she's too stupid to see it.]
[He decides not to say anything about that and grabs another box before handing it over to Ren. Inside is a bunch of... leather belts along with a few articles of clothing, some which match Kylo's current style. The others, however, are more questionable. There's also a black apron in there that Ren can use while cooking.]
[Well, one can't have enough belts, he supposes, and a few of the other items are perfect to add to his wardrobe as well, even if the others are less so.
The... jacket gets the briefest squint that's almost a grimace, but it passes quickly thanks to the fact that the other things are something he likes. It's a bit too Han Solo for him to want to wear it, even if there are some... aspects of it he does like. He sets it aside and pulls out the apron, letting out a brief noise of amusement that's not quite a laugh.]
This to go along with the pots, hm.
[Continuing to say thank you after every gift not only feels like a waste of breath, but it's a little more gratitude than he's willing to express all at once. He'd rather just thank Armitage again after they're through with the presents...]
Yes, better to stain that apron than getting anything on your new clothes.
[Of course, Hux feels the need to explain every gift as Kylo opens them. Well, the clothes are self-explanatory, but everything else...
Although, perhaps he should explain the belts too. Apparently people like Kylo would wear multiple belts at once? Sounds completely unnecessary, so it fits.]
Those leather belts were recommended to wear all at once.
[Things may be complicated with them, yes, but Kylo isn't someone Leia is about to leave out of the "we don't celebrate this holiday but I care about you so you get a gift anyway" festivities. Even if he might rather he was left out.
In a neatly wrapped box, Kylo will find two things: one, Leia's approximation of an Alderaanian bread, which doesn't taste bad at all. Two, a pot containing a vine of Dunamis-grown candlewick flowers. They won't grow seeds or anything like that, but visually and behaviorally, they're the same flower: growing on a vine, opening at night, and glowing with an orange bio-luminescence.]
[... now that he thinks of it, he's never known Hux to be particularly... err... thoughtful or considerate. Or anything that would require paying attention to other people's wishes in a way that didn't benefit his own.
Not that Kylo doesn't think Hux can't pay attention enough if he puts effort into it, but it's not as if the general has ever had to buy gifts for someone. It's not exactly a First Order tradition for more than a few reasons. So that makes him wonder... did Hux ask around about all of these gifts? Is that why there are so many? And who exactly did he ask?]
[Ah well, guess he should've expected this question. For a moment, Hux shifts almost awkwardly, like he's having difficulty about what he's going to admit. Definitely strange for him, but his uncertainty is obvious even as he tries to look nonchalant.
Hux folds his hands behind his back as he answers Ren.]
I'm uncertain who told me.
[...It's true, because of the telepathic network, although he's probably said too much now.]
Yes, I did. Like any good officer that lacks a particular brand of knowledge, I gathered intel from other sources before completing the task. You have seemed satisfied so far, so I don't see the problem with this.
[Ren lets out a breath through his nose as the corners of his mouth briefly turn upward.]
You really wanted to make sure you got this right.
[Although his inquiry may have seemed like a judgment, it was really just curiosity at the fact that Armitage seemed as if he were trying to keep it from him. As if there weren't enough plants blooming from the floorboard already, a fresh smell starts to fill the room as a few more appear.]
[Why is this so surprising!! Of course Hux wants to ensure that Kylo's birthday is one of his best ones just because he put the effort in. Because anything he does with a focused intent is destined to be great.]
...I realize that this day holds importance to you. [Why he decided to say that instead of his other thoughts, Hux doesn't really know. Okay, maybe he does, but humph.]
[It shouldn't be surprising, Ren is starting to think, and he almost feels bad for the fact that he keeps not expecting this sort of thing from his partner. But ultimately, it's a defense mechanism he can't exactly turn off, and he's not sure that he wants to when he keeps being so pleasantly surprised.
It's just better this way. If Armitage takes offense, Kylo will find a way to make it up to him.
To that end, he motions for Hux to come closer and sit next to him, even though there are still a few more presents.]
[Taking the invitation, Hux moves to sit next to Kylo. He doesn't really seem all that affronted at least, although he doesn't do much beside sit next to him. He's definitely open to contact, but he's unsure what Kylo wants to do or say.
[Hux doesn't have to wait long, as right after he sits down, Kylo puts his arm around the other man's shoulders and leans forward to kiss him on the cheek.
The rest of the gifts don't really matter, as far as what they are; he's just content sitting here next to his partner, leaning against him and appreciating their proximity. It's comfortable, and that feeling is something he's never stopped being drawn to.
Maybe that's weakness, but... they don't have the luxury of comfort back home. He wants to take it while he can get it.]
