[It certainly is a surprise to hear this voice, when he largely expected to never see hide nor hair of the man after he fled from the officer. While he'd been fine with that, he's not terribly opposed to this sudden contact, though he wonders if gratitude is all there is to it. Especially considering his reputation around here is "that guy who murdered people and then got eaten by a death monster." (Though thankfully sometimes it's just the first part.)]

I told him that death isn't permanent here, and that if he tried to kill someone regardless I would make him regret it.

Exactly. I was under the impression that there was sort of a truce in place? Not to mention the large difference in numbers... I haven't met a lot of Imperials.
